Latest Empties + Review

It has been quite a while since I’ve done any beauty related blogpost. In the future, I am definitely planning skin routines, everyday makeup routines, and posts like that that are related to beauty. Sometimes I forget to save my empties! So, these are the ones I have recovered in the past couple of months. Since I have used up all of these products, why not review it for you guys, right?

Listerine Zero Mouthwash My boyfriend is obsessed with dental health and fresh breath, which I great appreciate obviously. He’s always with a bottle of mouthwash and a pack of floss, and I tend to make fun of him for it. To be honest though, he’s gotten me to be more conscious. One thing that I hate about mouthwash, especially the normal Listerine is how much it burns. I found out that the alcohol in the mouthwash is what makes your mouth burn, so I decided to try a mouthwash without alcohol. This stuff is great! No terrible burn, a good taste, and fresh breath. Everything I could ask for in a mouthwash.

Anastasia Brow Wiz Anastasia’s brow product is all over the beauty world. I have successfully transitioned to Anastasia’s pomade, but this brow pencil is the next best thing. Perfect for on the go! Be careful though. You might run out a bit quickly if you tend to always break the tip like I do. Tip: Go one shade lighter than what you think you should buy. I found that the shade that matched me hair actually showed up too dark on my eyebrows.

L’Oreal Voluminous Building Mascara This is actually my current mascara. I always come back to this baby! I try other mascaras when I have the chance to, but this mascara gives you a lot of volume, darkness, AND length without it looking too fake or clumpy. If you buy the non-waterproof formula, you will see that it will come off of your lashes easily without ripping out eyelashes! ‘

NYX Shine Killer Primer I have no idea why I used this primer in the first place because I’m not shiny at all. I think I was going for a super matte look at the time! I will always recommend any type of primer. Primer gives your skin such a great base for makeup to be applied on top of it, and it makes your face stay longer than without primer. This one is pretty affordable too. Try it out!

Naked Skin Complete Coverage Concealer This concealer is the BEST high end one you can find in my opinion! I have tried concealer after concealer in the past few years. From Nars to Bobbi Brown to Mac. This formula is great for either on top or under your foundation. I use this one for my dark circles and for pimples. It doesn’t look cakey and doesn’t really seep into fine lines either! Also, very long-lasting which is key to a long school day.

Origins’ A Perfect World Moisturizer If you are looking for a good moisturizer from Sephora, i’d say try Origins. I’m very indifferent about moisturizer. I like all of them! The price point is terribly high, but this moisturizer is great for dry skin. I find it works really well at night if you apply a thick layer. Origins, as a brand, has really great scents for their skincare products so you don’t have to worry about that either. Give it a try!

L’Oreal Infallible The Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner This eyeliner is a holy grail product for me! I find that the Infallible Eyeliners last all day and the thinnest brush works well for tightlining and makes lines that are super close to your lashline. The only downfall is that this eyeliner dries up quickly. It’s a pretty cheap eyeliner though, so no biggie! Comparable to Kat Von D’s Tattoo Eyeliner.

Hourglass’ Veil Mineral Primer If only I had enough money to purchase the full size every time. I received a travel sized bottle of this primer as a reward perk and instantly fell in love! This primer makes your skin so smooth and creates the absolute perfect finish for matte foundations. My face never looked to flawless with a high end primer.

NYX’s Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer A hidden gem in the NYX section. Not a lot of people know about this primer, or are reluctant to try it because it’s on the high end of NYX. It provides the SAME gorgeous finish as the Hourglass primer. Crazy right? It is the closest dupe there is to the Houglass Veil Mineral Primer. And for what? A fourth of the price? A product I would recommend to ANYONE if they want longlasting, smooth makeup.

Fresh’s Soy Face Cleanser This cleanser is simple and hydrating! I also got this travel size as a point perk, and I used it right up. The price point is high for such natural ingredients but I found that my face reacted fairly well to it. This is nothing too heavy in chemicals either! So, if you have a face like mine that works perfect fine with soft cleansers, this one is for you.

Elf’s Mist & Set Makeup Setting Spray Pretty self explanatory! This spray sets your make up all day. Personally, I think the high end ones work better like Urban Decay’s All Nighter. This spray is a good drugstore option though if you’re not looking to spend a lot of money!

June Buy-and-Try

Happy July loves! Throughout June, I tried a few things and also added a few to my daily regimen. Here are the products that I decided to try out this month:

Screen Shot 2015-06-29 at 12.00.15 PM

(starting from top left and going down the row)

1. L’Oréal Paris’ Infallible Pro-Matte 24 Hour Foundation

This is one of my most recent purchases to the buy-and-try and sadly, I think this foundation has to be returned. The foundation I use currently, which most likely will become a “holy grail” in time, is L’Oréal’s Magic Nude Liquid Powder. The description of  Infallible Pro-Matte foundation that specifically reeled me in was the promised “24 hour coverage” and the fact that it is matte. In all honestly, I believe my current foundation lasts significantly longer than the 24 Hour Foundation above. My current foundation also, when paired with a light, light layer of Bare Mineral’s Powder Foundation to set, gives such an amazing matte finish. The finish of the Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation is pretty as well, but it is not the matte finish I was searching for. So even though this foundation did not work out personally for me, think of this review as just a further promotion for L’Oréal’s Magic Nude Liquid Powder 😉

2. L’Oréal Paris’ Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray

I bought this spray with the foundation that I reviewed above and I think I will be going through with this product and trying it out until it empties! Before this, I used the Elf Makeup Set and I wanted to try a new spray that isn’t $3 in hopes to find a better quality spray. Honestly, I think both sprays hold my makeup the same way, but since I am running out of the Elf Spray, I decided to keep on going with the new setting spray to just see if my love for it grows a little more.

3. 3D Crest White Luxe Glamorous White Whitestrips

I love these things! They’re quite pricey for the amount of strips in each box, but I can see a significant difference in the color of my teeth! Also, application is super easy and the strips itself were portable enough to stick it in my toiletries bag in my carry-on. This item will probably roll over to July just because I try to ration my treatments to 3 or 4 times a week to prevent changes in sensitivity, but overall these are a great product. I do recommend buying the 3D Crest White Mouthwash to maintain the color in between brushes.

4. L’Oréal Paris’ Original Voluminous Mascara in Black

What teenage girl doesn’t try a new mascara every time her old one dries out or runs out of product? Again, ANOTHER L’Oréal product… sorry, can you tell I like L’Oreal? Haha! This mascara is really something I decided to try on a whim in order to fulfill my Buy-One-Get-One-Half-Off Sale at ULTA. I really enjoyed this mascara. My lashes are naturally very straight, and I ultimately look for a mascara that can hold a curl and that focuses on volume. This mascara, however, gave my lashes a natural look that wasn’t dramatic at all and I surprisingly loved it. The curl is not as dramatic as other mascaras, but I love the baby curl it did give my lashes. Also, this is the mascara for you if you are looking for an applicator that can really get under your upper tightline and that can darken the lashes.

5. Lush’s Dream Cream Hand and Body Lotion

As you can tell from my previous posts, I have still been trying to fully get over an upper respiratory infection. You know the deal – coughing, running nose, sneezing, more coughing, etc. So all that nastiness was exiting my system, which directly affected my skin. Normally, my skin is balanced, not too oily not too dry, but with the respiratory infection, I found my skin to be EXTREMELY dry. In order to revive my skin while it repaired during the night time, I used Dream Cream. I found this lotion to work even on the face because of its thick consistency.

6. Cough Drops (CVS brand Honey Lemon Cough Drops)

Like I already explained in the last post, I was sick and was honestly coughing every 30 seconds. The coughing started to become uncontrollable and while I was laying in bed, and I really need it to stop. These cough drops vaguely taste like Vick’s if you’ve ever smelt that before, but it did help and I was thankful to have them when I was flying.

7. Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo

A new dry shampoo to try! If you didn’t know, washing your hair fully every day is actually more detrimental to the hair than beneficial. Washing actually sucks the moisture out of the hair and dries it out. I find that my hair tends to get slightly greasy when I skip a day of washing my hair, so dry shampoo is a must to make my hair looks like it is freshly washed and styled!

8. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

My last buy-and-try item is the Maybelline Fit Me Concealers. I have two – one in a lighter shade to highlight the under eyes and one in a deeper shade to act as a liquid contour for the cheek bones and the sides of the nose. I do not have a heavy contour routine in my everyday makeup, but when I am going out to dinner or going to a special event, I tend to use a liquid contour with a beauty blender just because I feel that powder contours are a bit harsh. Very good formula and as long as you lightly set the concealers with a powder of the same color, it should wear nicely.

Alright, so this wraps up the buy-and-try series this month. I hope you enjoyed the reviews on each product, and be free to comment on this post if you would like to share your favorites for the month of June OR if this list inspired you to try any of the items as well! Have a great week!

Houston Rodeo and Livestock Show

Two posts in a week? Not the normal for Jordyn, I know! But this was a must! Today, I visited #RodeoHouston for the second time. The first time, which was obviously because Bruno Mars (one of the longest loves of my life) was performing, was quite enjoyable and I was able to spend it with friends and family. This time also hosted a chart topper artist – Ariana Grande. From even “Victorious,” I had been a fan of Ariana Grande, her look, her talent, and her style. Regardless of the rumors of her being stuck up or spoiled, I truly believe that she expresses confidence in everything that she does – which is a message I have been trying to spread to many girls my age. So anyways, I would like to update you on this great night and provide pictures as well as commentary if that is okay with you!

Prep Time: Outfit/Makeup

Alright, so I realized that that is outfit is more on the SXSW side than normal Rodeo attire. I swear I belong in California lol. Here is the makeup I decided on wearing today:

My make-up and hair before leaving the house.

For makeup, I mostly stayed with my normal routine and just darkened up the eyes and darkened the contour.

What’s on my face? Foundation – Loreal Liquid Nude Long Wear; Eyelook – Lorac Pro Pallete and the Naked Basics Pallete; Liquid Liner – Loreal Infallible 12hr wear

As for the outfit . . .

Ariana Grande Rodeo Outfit

I really don’t know where I was going with this outfit. This definitely could have been a music festival outfit, even though there are no music festivals for me to go to because I have school all the time. Anyways, so here I am wearing a white collared short sleeve blouse from Forever 21, a pair of black, sequined shorts from Urban Outfitters (which might I add was only $9.99 when I bought it), a floppy black hat from The Buckle, a owl necklace from probably Charming Charlie’s, gladiators, and a side bag.

The Food: What Else Can I Possibly Fry?

Well one thing I love about the rodeo, other than the concerts, are the fried food. From fried red velvet cake to hot dogs, the rodeo will not disappoint when you have a fatty-foods craving. TIP: Do not eat more than 2 fried oreos. Your stomach will hurt the whole night because of its sweetness!

The Concert: The Honeymoon Tour

Lastly, the WHOLE REASON we came to the rodeo – Ariana Grande. The show was great and the dancers had a lot of energy. Also, her sparkly one piece body suit was amazing. This morning, I was a little horse from all the screaming. She didn’t disappoint (even though I tell which songs she was lip syncing over).

Song Recommendation: Adore by Cashmere Cat and Ariana Grande

BeautyCon Dallas!

Hello lovies! Welcome to Dallas, and also welcome to my first travel log! This weekend, overall, was filled with a lot of shopping, makeup, eating, laughs, and screaming. It was a great few days to start up my spring break of my senior year, and I am so thankful for everything that happened this weekend. So without further adieu, let’s start this log by summarizing day by day:

Saturday (3/14/15 or Pi Day haha): Beauty Con

Rising up out of bed with the frantic shakes of “oh no, we didn’t set out alarm,” my cousin Laynie and I rushed to get ready for the well anticipated BeautyCon Dallas. This convention, known normally for their shows in Los Angeles, houses common makeup venders and also includes panel sessions with famous YouTube and other social media personalities. After an hour or so of prep and pack, we headed out to start the road trip.

Laynie and I in the car, on our way to BeautyCon Dallas.

BeautyCon time! The tickets were scanned from our phones, bags were checked, and we finally entered into the convention at around 11 in the morning. Though there were many long lines that in my mind resembled Disneyland, we still had a great time. Stands from NYX, Tarte, BirchBox, Tattoo Junkie, were running and on each side of the convention warehouse, there were two stages that manned panels for serveral talks and meet and greets that were scheduled for the day.

The “Building A Brand Online” panel ft. Weylie Hoang, Leigh-Ann, Makeup by Mandy, MacDaddy, etc.

Now for the highlight of the day: getting to meet the famous Weylie Hoang from WahlieTV and ilikeweylie on YouTube. If you haven’t heard of her, I advise you to watch her videos and also the vlogs of her and her boyfriend Wah. They are the cutest! Weylie, by far, is one of my favorite Youtubers and I get a lot of style tips from her. I am so thankful that I got the opportunity to meet this amazing girl and the other people on the panel, as well as Jeanine Amapola and the well known @Mac_Daddyy and his fierce eyebrow and contour game.

Weylie and I at the meet and great session after her panel. The sweetest girl ever!

Lastly, to end our day, we picked up a 1/4 lb burger to ease our grumbling stomachs. With great thanks to the Yelp, we found this great hipster-like burger joint called Uncle Uber’s Sammich Shop in the Art District.

The logo graffiti-ed on the side of the building.

Let me tell you, there is nothing like a really good Mushroom and Swiss burger after a long day of riding in the car and walking. Fairly good pricing for the quality of burger and it went down well with a side of fries and a lemonade.

Mushroom, melted swiss, lettuce, tomatoes, and mayonnaise.

Sunday (3/15/15): Shopping Day

Sunday was definitely a lot more relaxed than the day prior to it. For once in about a week and a half, I was given the peace and quiet to sleep in till about 11:00 am (which is considered “late” to me). This was a blessing in itself to be honest! But what was even more a blessing was the fabulous breakfast from the award winning Breadwinners restaurant.

Logo on the panels surrounding the restaurant.
A sneak peak of the menu and cafe area of the restaurant.
(L-R) A side of 2 scrambled eggs, fresh squeezed orange juice, strawberries and creme waffle.

Now this is not an exaggeration. From the freshly squeezed pulp infused orange juice to the perfectly buttery side of scrambled eggs, this meal was a life changer in itself. So much that it deserved 4 pictures I guess! For the rest of the day, us girls spent a well deserved five or so hours of shopping. Other than the drive home, that pretty much sums up our trip.

Overall, this weekend had many highlights and will definitely be one to remember. If you have any questions regarding food or hotel recommendations, please be free to comment on the post!
